What are Squishies

What are Squishies?First of all, they are also sometimes known as Sqwishies. Note the spelling difference. The latest fad (as of fall 2010) making its way through certain elementary school classes is Squishies. These are pencil toppers made of soft, pliable plastic. A pencil topper is a little rubber or plastic thingy with a hole in the bottom of it. The eraser-end of the pencil sticks into the hole and the object is simply meant as a decoration. I can’t explain why Squishies are suddenly so popular. The Squishy collection consists of at least 25 soft pencil toppers shaped and colored like (mostly) barnyard animals. This is Bamboo, one of a pair of five-month-old red panda twins. November 13 was International Red Panda Day and the Zagreb Zoo invited visitors to suggest names for the two. I looked, but wasn't able to find out if they are boys or girls. Anyway, I thought they looked more like a raccoon than a panda. How about you?

Meet Nipper the Tiny Flipper

Nipper is is a 10-day-old dolphin that was rescued on a beach near Montevideo, Uruguay. This adorable guy was discovered by people walking on the beach, and there appeared to be no sign of Nipper’s mother, and he seemed to have injuries believed to be caused by a fishing net.
