SQUISHY STORY—THE SQUISHIES GO CAMPING!
FOR ALYSSA SAYS MONTHLY CONTEST. RRRRRIIIINNNNGGGGG! RRRRRIIIINNNNGGGG! rang the bell of Squishy Elementary. A voice came over the intercom. “Classes are now dismissed for the day.” And soon, the Grande Squishy Staircase of Squishy Elementary was crowded with squishies of all ages and all colors, shapes and sizes. After school was done, the octopus squishies headed for the pool, the pandas hit their bamboo gardens, and the bear squishies went to Honey Grove, where there were lots of bees, and therefore, there was a lot of honey. But there was one little group of squishies that always stuck together. They were called the Clan. Even though most squishies hung out with squishies like themselves, the Clan always stuck together. The Clan headed for home in a little group, and had their parents sign their permission slips to camp out with their class at Squishy Park. It was a huge park, with a pool, hang-gliders, ziplines, and more. After their parents had granted permission, the squishies went to the mall and bought swimwear, sunscreen, and sunglasses for when they went on the trip, since there would be a pool. Of course, the bird squishy in this group of squishies couldn’t swim very well, but she got sunglasses instead. Soon, it was the day for the class field trip! The squishies were so excited that they couldn’t bear it. They were supposed to board the bus at 9:00 AM, but the squishies woke up at 8:00 because they were so excited. “Hooray! Here comes the bus,” shouted one squishy. When they arrived at Squishy Park, the first thing the monkey squishies did was head to the monkey bars. The jungle gym, the hang-glider and the zipline reminded the parrot of the Amazon Jungle, where she used to live, and she flapped away, singing happily. The bears headed to check out the trees for honey. And the octopi and dolphins went to the pool. The dolphins needed help getting there, since they couldn’t walk very well, and so did the octopi. The other squishies just hung around in the park pavilions and talked. The Clan drifted around in the pool a bit, then they left. They wanted to try the slides and swings, but there were long lines, all the swings were full, and they didn’t want to waste all of their park time in a boring, old line. After the class was done playing, it was time to eat! It was 1:00, and the squishies usually had lunch at 12:00 so they were very hungry. They had a big cake, little sandwiches, and cold lemonade. It was delicious. But the little squishy group was curious to find out more, and they wandered off after lunch. They discovered that the park bathrooms were smelly and dirty, and that there were a lot of bees in the forest. A big dog charged at the squirrel. “Aaahhhh!” The squirrel started to run away. “Wait. We should stay put!” suggested one squishy. “No, let’s find a map,” said another. The two squishies—parrot and panda—began to argue loudly. Soon enough, Policesquishy Dave, their hero, came to see what all the fuss was about. He finally directed them to a map of the whole park. The squishies thanked him, and headed on their way. Well, at least they tried to. On their way back, the squirrel squishy stopped to nibble on some tasty nuts, the bear stopped to swat at some bees and have some honey, and the other squishies exclaimed loudly about a tall tree. The squishies had been gone for so long, that when they finally returned, it was time to set up the tent! Since the squishies were all pretty small, they would all fit in one tent. Mrs. Squashy said she was about to send out a rescue group, when the Clan had returned. As they roasted marshmallows over a campfire made with fallen trees, the Clan told of their adventures. Everyone was amazed, even the teacher! Then, they got to roll out their sleeping bags. All the squishies were a little bit scared, all except for that little squishy group. They decided that they wanted to see what happened in the squishy park at night, and when everyone was sleeping, they snuck out. “Hey! Look! The slide and the swings don’t have long waiting lines anymore! Wanna go on?” asked the monkey squishy. “Noooo! I say we go and steal a soda and some chips from the snack bar!” exclaimed the panda squishy, who was always hungry. “How about this? Why don’t we just go back to the tent? It’s too dangerous to be out at this time,” suggested one of the other squishies. That squishy was a squirrel. The squirrel checked the park clock.“It’s 11:34, and that’s really late. We should really get going back to the tent.” “Oh, all right,” replied the reluctant panda who was really hungry, even after sixteen s’mores. He longed for soda and chips. The Clan ran back to the tent and snuggled up in their sleeping bags. Before they knew it, the class had woken up. It was time to go home. The squishies were all yawning, but they all agreed on the bus that they had had a great time at the park. Just then, the panda remembered something. “I have to go back.” The panda wasn’t joking. “Whatcha forget?” asked the bear squishy. “My sleeping bag!” “So?” “That cost a lot! I have to get it!” cried the panda. “My parents will be so mad if I don’t get it.” “Well, you could come back tonight and get it,” replied the bear. “Oh well, I guess I could,” said the panda, rather reluctantly. In class, the squishies got to make little booklets about their camping trip. Everyone was a bit lazy, but Mrs. Squashy let it go because she said that they had had a hard time yesterday sleeping. By the time school was all over, the squishies were excited to get home. They couldn’t wait to tell their parents all about their fun time! But they were also excited for dinner to be over, so they could get their rest. Tomorrow would be Saturday, and the octopus had piano lessons (he was great at it, with eight tentacles!), and he had to get up at 9:00 AM, so he went to bed very early. That night, all of the squishies had dreams about marshmallows, s’mores, lemonade, and their adventure. The squishies all had a good sleep, even the octopus. And the next day, when the octopus was back from piano practice, they all played together in the octopus’s wading pool. They had a lot of fun. Then they sat on the front porch of the panda’s house and sold lemonade, and they had a lot of fun doing that, too. They spent the rest of the day talking about their trip and planning more trips. Soon enough, it was time for dinner. The squishies had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Panda said he needed to get his sleeping bag and that it was in the park. But his parents weren’t angry. They just sighed. And they said that he could go to the park with all of his squishy friends. The squishies were very excited! They couldn’t wait to go there. Their adventure would start all over again. Squishies rule. THE END. SquishiesRule.com
